Casual – Event support worker

The Dorothy Clive Garden is licenced for the celebration of marriages and we require a handy, flexible person to support weddings and other events held at the garden on a casual basis, usually over the summer. This year we have 13 weddings booked between May and October.

Key role and responsibilities.

You may be required to: –

  • Prepare spaces in the garden for a function e.g. cutting grass, trimming shrubbery and general tidying up.
  • set out chairs for an event in a required format.
  • drive a lawn tractor and trailer to pick up items required for an event e.g. tables, chairs, boxes of drink, glasses and other items.
  • put out signage.
  • brush out pavilions
  • Put up tables in a function room
  • Cover chairs with covers
  • Remove unrequired furniture to another area
  • Occasionally drive a golf buggy to deliver disabled guests to a function area
  • After an event clear chairs, tables and other equipment
  • Ensure that spaces are ready for the public, check for safety.
  • Store equipment securely and orderly
  • Help to put up gazebos and take them down when the event is over
  • liaise with the wedding planner/ curator

Personal qualities

You need to be trustworthy and reliable. You may be required to be on site for a few hours whilst an event is in progress.

The event support worker would be required on a casual basis so needs to be flexible and available at weekends. Most events are held on a Saturday or Sunday over the summer months.

You would need to be calm and willing to help; a can-do attitude is essential.

This role would suit a fit retired person who would welcome the opportunity to support the garden on special days. Usually the day before an event, on the day and the day after the event.

Pay – £10 per hour.

Essential requirements for the position

Experience of and able to use a mower and other gardening equipment

Able to lift and carry safely

Flexible and eager to support positively

Have a broad understanding of gardening and plants.
