Join Jean Crocker to design and create your own kite.
With a background in contemporary craft, Jean has a degree in the subject and taught ceramics for 25 years. She has also worked as a graphic designer and has spent many years teaching both adults and children in the community. If you have visited the Garden you will no doubt have seen some of Jean’s creations including the Willow sculpture of Rudolph, the enchanting fairy village, her detailed model scenes and the butterfly exhibit in our Royal Botanic Glasshouse.
For kite making, we are experimenting with materials, some recycled, some new, we will explore size and style with a theme of butterflies, if you would like to, small sample kites could be included in the Gardens Royal Botanic Glasshouse as part of our butterfly display.
Your ideas are as important as mine. We can upscale our favourites, and test them on the lawn, weather permitting.
Materials: I will gather what I can but if you would like to bring any materials for your creation. Some light thread to fly our kites, thin plant support sticks, scissors, ruler or measure, sticky tape, glue, brushes, pens, colours, for decorations.
Newspapers, brown paper, card, light fabrics, recycled or new.
